Wellness Clinical Research is pleased to recognize Principal Investigator Gustavo R. Albizu-Angulo, MD, for his participation in the SURMOUNT-5 clinical trial program.
Dr. Albizu is listed among the SURMOUNT-5 Trial Investigators in the New England Journal of Medicine publication, "Tirzepatide as Compared with Semaglutide for the Treatment of Obesity."
A major head-to-head obesity study
SURMOUNT-5 was a phase 3b, open-label, controlled trial that directly compared tirzepatide and semaglutide in adults with obesity who did not have type 2 diabetes. Participants were assigned to receive the maximum tolerated dose of either treatment over 72 weeks.
The study addressed an important clinical question at a time when incretin-based therapies have become central to obesity research and treatment development.
Investigator participation from Puerto Rico
Dr. Albizu is named in PubMed's collaborator listing for the SURMOUNT-5 Trial Investigators. ClinicalTrials.gov also identifies Wellness Clinical Research in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico as a participating location with Dr. Albizu serving as Principal Investigator.
His involvement reflects the growing role of Puerto Rico research sites in large, multi-center metabolic and obesity development programs.
